Water & Being Under It

Making "Body." A Simple Short Film.

The new frontier, currently, is the great underwater world and trying to film in it.  A few weeks ago we purchased an underwater housing for our cameras.  Excitement was awakened by an impending landslide of possibilities and the anticipation for the next film Friday out on Glen Lake can only be described as unmerited.  I can now say that few things have been more fun and more frustrating than shooting underwater.  First our problem was the optical magnification of water, then swimmers itch.  Water is a strange thing.  I'm now theorizing that it would be easier to paint a still life whilst climbing a tree and holding my breath than it is to get a shot underwater that is usable.

All this being said, the shots we needed we have successfully collected and we've learned a lot for next time.  It took 3 different locations and 4 separate attempts, but we finally got our 2 shots.  The footage is for a Film Friday project called "Body."

Body is a poem in the form of a visually driven short film.  Most of the footage was collected between 6 and 8 AM and I'm really excited for the post work that is going into the colors and emotion of the footage.  Hopefully it will be done shortly after "Umkehren," our first Film Friday project, is released.
