The One, the Only.

Grant Floering.
One of my favorite people.

I was happy to be able to work with Grant on a double project back in October, the first half of which is seen here. It involved a couple days of filming, lots of planning and a lot of revision.

It all started over the summer when I was trying to create some sort of PDF Document that would be useful in explaining what I, as a film maker, do and what makes my work different. I was in the middle of it when it occurred to me that it'd be much easier and more practical to explain what I do through film instead of through writing. After all, I have made promotional films for other people, why not myself! But I'd need some help, and I'd definitely need some exceptionally good music created for. So I called Grant and proposed that we should create two short promotional films, one for him and one for me. I would do the video for his and he would do the music for mine, a perfect trade!

He thought this was a good idea. So we went for it, and this is the fruit of our labor. I've posted Grant's promo film since the music and colour is still being done for mine.

Grant's film is done in filmic black and white to match the aesthetic of his web page. I kept the whites very dark, so that I could create an image with strong contrast without losing detail. I've been working with a lot of new filming techniques and lens systems that I haven't had a chance to show off in my work yet, but they're seen in Grant's film for the first time. His film has lots of movement, visual information, and represents a fresh approach to a digital film making in that we're embracing the the new options available to us because of the SLR sensor instead of just silently wishing it was film.

We we're assisted by Josh Wunderlich, who was kind enough to drive for all of the biking footage and assist in rigging camera mounts to the bike frame. And as always, he's full of good taste and well grounded ideas.

Enjoy! I'll be posting the second film soon.
