So I haven't posted anything since February, but that's because we've all been really, excellently busy. Thankfully, that's because we've had the opportunity to do some really cool things and mix them into our already busy lives.
I have successfully finished my custom 35mm adapter, a large lens attachment made of projection materials, prisms, and electronics that allows me to use old photography lenses on our new, HD cameras. I've been working on the adapter for over a year, and let me be the first to say that it was worth every penny and every minute I put into it. Though these adapters can be bought for hundreds of dollars, I was able to assemble mine for under $200 and was able to change the formula and create something one of a kind. I can do things with my 35mm adapter that were thought to have been impossible. We have been using it for everything we do. I love it. The depth of field is SO deep and SO rich and the tones are even and warm. The marriage of HD and vintage photography is a beautiful thing.
I've also begun a new series of very shot films, that I call 20 Second Vignettes. The idea behind them is that I want our film work to be more of an art and less of business. 20 Second Vignettes are a collection of very short films with no budget, no client, no story, no plot, no start and no end. They are simply imagery. People, places, things, ideas, photographs that move and tell. Art for art's sake. I will be posting some very soon.
Also, wedding season has begun and I am very pleased with the quality of the footage we've been capturing. With our experience growing constantly and our new lenses and adapters, our ability to tell the story of the most important day in someone's life is only increasing.
About a month or two ago, a large part of our crew got together to film a very short piece about one of our hobbies that we're partially ashamed of; playing Modern Warfare 2. Our goal was to render, as accurately as possible, the thrill and frustration of winning and losing, but in super slow motion. We didn't put a lot of time into it, but it was a lot of fun and the final product, maxing out at a minute and a half, is definitely a worth while watch.
I'm actually going to post it right now.
Along with all of these projects, we've also done some film shoots with some world class Equestrian riders in Bay Harbor, MI, and so promotional shooting with an up and coming wedding blog called Simply Blue. Simply Blue is looking to hold a higher standard in the wedding industry and really try and communicate the beauty of northern Michigan, two things Eleven35 Productions believes in very strongly. We've been given the opportunity to produce a promotional video for them and have really enjoyed the artistic freedom we've been given and can't wait for the final piece to be finished.
That's about all for now, which is a ton, I apologize, but I'll publish another post soon with some 20 Second Vignettes as they are polished up and other things that we're working on very soon.
All my love,
JohnPaul
